Rally Sim Updates

In my post about the WRC 5 announcement, I stated that I feel 2015 will be a major year for rally racing fans. A couple more developments in the last week have further cemented my stance, and are sure to excite dirt racing fans. Let’s take a look at some of what’s coming!

gRally Preview Video

Richard Burns Rally is touted as one of the most realistic rally simulations of the past 15 years, and for good reason. It was one of the most immersive experiences available in any racing title, with some features not seen in any other titles. It also featured an expanded modding community, which has done an incredible job bringing the sim to modern standards.

One of the modding teams was RBR-Online.it, which also hosted online races. They have decided to work on a spiritual successor to RBR, and thus, gRally is born. They have been working on it for a while now, and we have a new preview video.

The video showcases the Fiat 131 Abarth rally car around a tarmac stage. The video is short on info, with the description only showing “Ogre2”. Upon some investigation, I came across a 3D graphics engine by the same name. Could this be the engine that’s powering gRally?

You can find some more information about gRally on the official site.

Sebastian Loeb Rally Evo

With Kylotonn obtaining the WRC license, Milestone has partnered up with rally legend Sebastian Loeb to bring a new title to consoles. Sebastian Loeb Rally Evo was just announced this past week, and we have great teaser shots of the rally course in Sweden.

I have to say, the course looks awesome, and almost better than real life. How it performs in-game remains to be seen though. I’m cautiously optimistic about this title, and am looking forward to seeing what it brings. Sadly, this is only coming to current-gen consoles, and PC racers will be left in the cold.
