Gran Turismo Sport is a title that has long been in development hell eagerly awaited by the community, and it looks like we’re getting a step closer to release! Polyphony Digital has announced that the next iteration of Gran Turismo will be entering a closed Beta this month!

The news comes from the head of Polyphony Digital, Kazunori Yamauchi, who has laid out the vision for the GT Sport Beta in a Playstation Blog post. In the post, Kaz discussed that the Beta Testers will be able to test out a rotation of different cars, as well as getting a first taste of how the “Driver Rating” and other online-based modes will work out.

Touching on the Driver Rating, it looks like it will be similar in some elements to iRacing, or Assetto Corsa’s “Minorating”. You will be rated by letters, from E to A, and then S (E, D, C, B, A, S). It will be interesting to see how PD handles the ranking, but it sounds like it will be primarily based on race results, as opposed to driver safety. However, we’ll likely find out, once the Beta starts!

A few things worth mentioning:

The Beta will ONLY be open to select US Playstation 4 owners, and then will likely expand as time goes on. To begin, PD has selected the US, because “the time differences across the U.S. are best matched to the development team in Tokyo.” Servers will also only be available during certain points of the day, so that will also need to be factored in.

You can sign up for the beta via this link. If you live in Europe, they are also accepting applications for their “Phase 2”.
