DiRT Rally has become one of the top racing games on the consoles, in addition to PC, and has garnered a strong following. With the support for the Oculus Rift on the PC, many were wondering if the Playstation 4 version of the game would gain support for the PSVR headset. Now, wonder no more! The Playstation 4 version of DiRT Rally will gain official support for the PSVR headset!
The Announcement comes via the official DiRT Youtube Channel, and states that the update will be “in the coming weeks”. Unlike GT Sport, which is stated to have “limited VR functionality”, it appears that DiRT Rally will have full functionality, allowing all cars to be utilized with the headset. In addition, all modes will feature VR compatibility. I will say, running Pikes Peak in VR is likely going to be a blast!
In addition to the VR announcement, is a rather unique announcement. DiRT Rally will incorporate a “Co-Driver Mode”. The co-driver will communicate with the driver via a Dualshock 4 controller, with the buttons and the touchpad. I think this will be an interesting mode, and may add to the immersion of the game! Hopefully it could transfer over to the PC version, which would allow maybe for communication/pacenotes over voice chat/Teamspeak.
This will be an interesting direction for DiRT Rally to be heading, and I’m excited to see where it goes. I have limited test time with the PSVR headset, but I was pleasantly surprised by how it ran. Hopefully it will work well with DiRT Rally!
