Niels Heusinkveld is quite a busy man! Between pushing the ISIMotor2 engine to its limits for Game Stock Car/rFactor and developing high end sim hardware, it’s amazing he finds time to also communicate with the community. However, he has found time to do many Q&A videos, and he has released the fourth in the series.
Niels decided to take a virtual representation of his Ford Fiesta to the Transfagarasan, regarded to many as one of the greatest roads in the world (extra points if you read that in Jeremy Clarkson’s voice). Some of the topics he decided to tackle were the expanding variety in display technology, such as the Oculus Rift and high end projector setups. While he was at it, Niels also tackled the issue of motion cockpits, and his opinion on why they aren’t as great as they could be.
I have to say, Niels makes some great points, and I’m inclined to agree with him on a lot of them. Some of the input he gives is stuff I hadn’t considered, like how the eyepieces in the Rift should be more horizontal than vertical. You can also see that his mindset is “low latency is key”, so you can have as close to a 1:1 experience as possible while racing.
I won’t spoil the rest of the video for you, because I feel it is a great watch. So grab a bag of popcorn, and enjoy the half hour you’ll take watching the video. What are your thoughts on the latest Q&A from Niels Heusinkveld? Let us know in the comments below!
