YouTuber GamerMuscle has been an avid advocate of all things sim racing, including giving us great video footage of the Oculus Rift DK2. This time, he decided to do a shootout video, comparing the physics of RaceRoom Racing Experience, Project CARS, and Assetto Corsa. This is a great video, and I recommend the watch.
One of the things I found interesting, but hardly surprising, about GamerMuscle’s comparison is how he states that RaceRoom Racing Experience and Project CARS are somewhat similar in feel, particularly with “over-the-limit” driving. The reason I say it’s not surprising is because both sims trace their roots back to the ISIMotor2 engine. Slightly Mad Studios has modified Project CARS to the point where it is almost unrecognizable, but some of the same traits, like physics characteristics, can remain.
While PCARS and RaceRoom Racing Experience have similar roots, Kunos Simulazioni’s Assetto Corsa is built on a totally different base. It features a totally separate in-house engine. That means it can have a quite different feel, with GamerMuscle describing it as “quite lively”.
One thing I would look forward to is seeing if GamerMuscle revisits this comparison when iRacing releases the Nurburgring GP circuit, so we can have a 4-way showdown. Would that be interesting to watch? What sim do you feel is most authentic? Let us know in the comments?
