While over a decade old, Richard Burns Rally is still regarded to as one of the top rally racing titles available on the PC. However, it looks like that crown could be in danger, with DiRT Rally taking the sim racing world by storm. YouTuber GamerMuscle decided to take the two titles for a spin, and pit them head to head.
Richard Burns Rally was developed by Warthog Games and published by SCi. Legendary rally driver Richard Burns was contracted to provide input on the development of the game, and it was made into one of the most in-depth rally titles available. While the developers folded in 2006 (after being sold off to various other companies), RBR has been kept alive by an active modding community.
DiRT Rally is on the other side of the spectrum. It is the fifth game to don the “DiRT” moniker by AAA developer Codemasters, but is looking to reinvent the series. While DiRT 2, 3, and Showdown seemingly was targeted towards the adolescent audience, DiRT Rally is looking to specialize on making an authentic rally title. So far, the title’s off to a good start, but there is a lot of room for improvement. However, Codemasters seems to be taking hints from the community and is looking to make it more authentic.
