A few weeks ago, I was talking with ISI staff member Tim Wheatley, and I was complaining a bit about how a lot of recent rFactor 2 releases were just updates, while the new content was constantly teased. Since then, ISI has released two reasons for me to shut my big mouth. First, the Shelby Cobra, which is currently #4 on our Sim Car Rankings board. Next, ISI has released the Palatov Motorsport D4 for rFactor 2. This is another Third Party Affiliate car as well, featuring the work of “SLOW MOTION GROUP”.
Now, if you’re like me, you’re likely saying to yourself “What the heck is a Palatov D4?” Well, to sum it up, it’s kind of a modular mini-prototype car. There are a variety of different options you can choose for the car, most notably engine configuration. The Palatov D4 is powered by a Suzuki Hayabusa engine (similar to some Legends cars), but there are some tuning options that’ll boost it to CRAZY levels!
– Hayabusa 2015 1.3L inline-4 engine, 174.5 P.S. @ 9750 rpm, 150 Nm @ 7250 rpm, normal aspirated, that equips the Track day and is available as option for the Custom Class.
– Hayabusa 2015 Turbo Stage I 1.3L inline-4 engine, 226.1 P.S. @ 9800 rpm, 195 Nm @ 7750 rpm, that is available as option for the Custom Class only.
– Hayabusa 2015 Turbo Stage II 1.3L inline-4 engine, larger radiator, 351.6 P.S. @ 10250 rpm, 283 Nm @ 8100 rpm, that equips the Hillclimb and is available as option for the Custom Class.
351.6 PS (just under 350 horsepower) in a car that weighs less than 1,000 pounds (425 kg)? That is INSANITY! I did a lap at Tiger Moth Aerodrome in the car, and I think if I push hard enough, I can do a Top Gear style lap UNDER a minute! That is “HolycrapI’mgoingtodie!” fast from a 1.3L inline-4 engine.
Luckily, you have two different drivetrain options to tame that beast. The primary option is the standard RWD system, while the Hillclimb configuration allows a 4WD option (the “Custom” config has a 4WD option to0). Yep, this is the first car released through ISI to have a 4WD drivetrain! I’ve been testing it out, and I’ll say this: it makes you want rally even more in rFactor 2! Feeling the car slide through corners, makes you want to do the same but on dirt.
