The first Developer Diary has been released for the upcoming NASCAR Heat 2! The video diary showcases some of the upcoming features coming to 704Games’ follow-up to NASCAR Heat Evolution.
The most notable addition to NASCAR Heat 2 is something we haven’t seen in a NASCAR title since 2008’s NASCAR 09: multiple racing series. In NH2, we will be able to race in the Camping World Truck Series, Xfinity Series, and the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. All the tracks will be re-created for the lower series as well, including tracks such as Eldora, Road America, and Canadian Tire Motorsports Park.
The added series will also factor into the revamped career mode. In the career mode, you will start off as a driver in the NCWTS, and then move your way up to the Xfinity Series, and then up to Cup racing. I think that this should be a solid dynamic that I’m hoping will be well done.
Another exciting functionality that has been confirmed is that split-screen racing will be present, and you can set it to race against 38 other drivers, to make a full 40-car field. This is the first time you can race against your friend locally since 2012’s NASCAR the Game: Inside Line. In addition, the split-screen mode will feature yellow flags, and also online will FINALLY feature cautions!
Sadly, with this being a game to replicate NASCAR racing, stage racing is also going to be simulated in this title. While I’m definitely not a fan of the format, it’s nice to see that 704 Games is exercising due diligence to make sure the racing experience is authentic.
While NASCAR Heat Evolution was definitely a bit of a fumbled launch, it sounds like there is a legitimate possibility that NASCAR Heat 2 could learn from their mistakes. Do you think that NASCAR Heat 2 could be a solid step forward from its lackluster predecessor?
