Last year, with the annonucement of Dirt Racing coming to iRacing, it was mentioned that Rallycross would be coming to the sim as well as oval racing. We now have the oval racing, but we still know very little about Rallycross, but we now got another announced car to add to the Ford Fiesta, the Volkswagen Beetle GRC!
The Volkswagen Beetle GRC is one of the cars that is fielded in the Red Bull Global Rallycross championship, alongside other vehicles such as the Ford Fiesta ST, Honda Civic, and Subaru WRX STI. The car that is specifically being scanned into iRacing is the car driven by Scott Speed in the GRC championship, and he is working alongside iRacing to unsure maximum realism in the sim.
One of the best things about this upcoming car? It’s going to be released as FREE content to all iRacing members! Upon release, this will count as one of the free cars to help iRacing members get used to the new discipline.
There hasn’t been much information about tracks that are confirmed for iRacing, but I am going to go out on a limb and guess that Thompson Speedway is going to host a free Rallycross circuit. The track (which is a free track for iRacing members) also hosts an event in the Red Bull Global Rallycross championship, so that is likely an indicator of what may come in iRacing.
Judging from tracks seen last year in the GRC championship, it may be worth a guess that we’ll see Daytona International Speedway, Phoenix, and maybe more coming! This is just speculation, but we’ll likely see more content as time goes on.
What do you think of this free RallyCross car coming to iRacing? Let us know in the comments!
