One of the major circuits to be released for iRacing last year was the Nurburgring Nordschleife, offering one of the most challenging tracks in the online racing sim. Since the track’s release, many drivers have lauded the circuit for its accuracy. Now, we have another driver to add to the list: Stefan Johansson.
Now, that name may not ring a bell at first glance, but Stefan Johansson is one of the more seasoned open wheel/prototype racers around. With a career spanning 33 years, including 9 seasons in Formula One and a 24 Hours of Le Mans win in 1997, Stefan is no stranger to throwing a car around a track. In addition, he has raced around the Nordschleife in Formula 3, Formula 2, and in Group C competition, so he can be considered a reputable source for information about the Green Hell.
Stefan visited CXC Simulations to test out their Motion Pro II simulator. While he had experience in Formula 3 and Formula 2, he got to do something that would likely never be able to be done in real life: race a modern Formula One car around the Nordschleife! He took the McLaren MP4-30 to the track, and gave some driving tips while recording his lap around the track.
I gotta say, this is a pretty cool video, seeing a racing veteran run around iRacing. I also have to save, Stefan Johansson is looking pretty darn good for 60 years old!
