The time has come! The first Porsche race car has arrived on iRacing, the 911 GT3 Cup (991).
The car is powered by Porsche’s iconic boxer engine located in the rear, and generates 485 horsepower. The car is only 1,200 kg, and with the rear-mounted engine, it makes for a lively driving experience, but quite rewarding if you do it well!
The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car is one of the most iconic GT race cars, running in over 20 racing series around the world. The car has launched racing careers of drivers such as Rene Rast, Philipp Eng, Jörg Bergmeister, and other well known racers.
Judging from early impressions from the iRacing community, they seem to be truly enjoying the car, despite the fact that it is not currently running in any series at the moment. I would say it is safe to assume that this could find a spot in the iRacing Blancpain (GT3) series very soon, but that brings up a question.
As of right now, the iRacing game engine allows for five car models to be rendered in the sim. If the Porsche is added, and no other cars are removed, that will make bring the GT3 series to six cars. Could we be seeing a core engine change in iRacing to allow for a sixth car? Or will we see a car like the Ford GT GT3 removed from the roster?
The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (991) car is now available for $11.95. Have you taken the new vehicle out for a spin yet? What are your thoughts?
