Back in September, iRacing announced that they have licensed Aston Martin, and will be bringing four new cars to the online racing service. Now, we have our first preview, showing off the Aston Martin DBR9 GT1 race car.
The Aston Martin DBR9 will be set in a series alongside the Chevrolet Corvette GT1 already available in iRacing. These two cars have a storied history, including swapping 24 Hours of Le Mans victories back and forth. The DBR9 is powered by a 6.0L V12, which pumps out 600 horsepower and an incredible sound! The car ran between 2005 and 2010, when the GT1 class folded.
In addition to the DBR9, Aston Martin will have 3 other cars coming to iRacing. We know one of the cars will be the Aston Martin Vantage GT3, which is another V12 powered beast. This will mark the 5th GT3 race car available on iRacing. What is also interesting is I believe they have more GT3 cars planned. As of right now, the iRacing engine only allows 5 separate cars. Could we see an internal engine change in iRacing to accommodate a wider GT3 series?
There is quite a bit of speculation as to what other Aston Martins could come to iRacing. The sim does not have an LMP1 class vehicle in this point in time, so could Aston fit a hole there? Time will tell.
What Aston Martin would you like to see in iRacing? Let us know in the comments!
(Note: there is NO release date yet for the DBR9)
