The Playstation 4 Pro console is slated for release on November 10th, but we are already seeing patches and announcements of support for the revamped console. In addition, today marked the launch of a special Sony event in London, centered around the PS4 Pro. Polyphony Digital was confirmed to be at the event, and now we see why: Gran Turismo Sport has been confirmed to support the new hardware!
The news was originally broken by Greek video game news site GameOver.gr. Kazunori Yamauchi was in attendance at the London event and he laid out what to expect for GT Sport on the PS4 Pro:
- 60 Frames Per Second
- 4K Resolution
- Wide Color
- Virtual Reality Support (via the PSVR Headset)
It is worth mentioning that the game will likely NOT run in native 4K resolution, but will be running in a lower resolution, then upscaled to 4K. In addition, I find it unlikely that it will be 60 FPS at 4K. Due to the stated performance being below the minimum for native 4K rendering at 60FPS (8 Teraflops for 60FPS@4K vs the PS4 Pro’s 4.2 Teraflops), we will likely see this being a common trend for PS4 Pro games. What I will guess is that we will most likely see a stable 60 FPS frame rate at 1080p, and 30 FPS at 4K resolution.
HDR will also be a welcome addition to the title, which will do a better job at recreating the full range of light. Commonly, images in video/photography/games will favor either the lighter elements of an image, or the darker. That results in the image being either too bright, or too dark. HDR being implemented in video games will provide the best of both worlds, giving us both the highs and the lows.
Unfortunately, we did NOT get an announcement regarding the release date of GT Sport, but at least we have some news! What do you think of the announcement? Are you planning on getting a PS4 Pro when it’s released next year? Let us know in the comments!
