One of the major boxes that need to be checked off of any console title’s checklist is solid controls. While Assetto Corsa is definitely meant to be used with a wheel, many PS4 and Xbox One will be using Assetto Corsa with a gamepad. Kunos Simulazioni has now released a video, showing how the sim will will behave while using a PS4 controller.
The video showcases the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 race car in a hot lap around Circuit Spa-Francorchamps. On the left side, we have the car being controlled by a Dualshock 4, and on the right, an unnamed steering wheel setup.
My first impressions on this is that it looks somewhat of a mix between Forza and Gran Turismo’s handling styles. In my experience, GT is more “twitchy”, while “Forza” is a little more “mushy” in the handling. If this achieves somewhat of a balance of the two, I could see gamepad racers enjoying this title.
On a somewhat unrelated note, I am really enjoying the minimal user interface for the video. Judging from other previews I’ve seen of the console versions of the sim, it appears to be somewhat static compared to the PC version. However, I would like to see these elements be ported over to the PC version, and I’d gladly incorporate them into my Assetto Corsa HUD.
While the previews are definitely looking promising, we will see if Assetto Corsa on consoles lives up to the hype at the end of this month. Assetto Corsa will be coming out for the PS4 and Xbox One on August 26th in Europe, and August 30th in North America.
